Integrated powertrain, chassis and smart systems reflect the brand’s “Classic Never Fades” engineering philosophy.
iCAUR recently presented a comprehensive look at its latest engineering developments, highlighting progress in its platform architecture, chassis design, and intelligent all-wheel drive systems. These technologies (central to the brand’s Born To Play philosophy) form the foundation of its current and upcoming EV models.
S5X platform
At the core of every iCAUR vehicle is the S5X platform, a modular EV platform that integrates powertrain, chassis, and smart systems. Its flexibility allows it to support a wide range of vehicle types, from compact city cars to larger premium models and off-road capable designs, enabling the brand to respond efficiently to different market requirements.
Chassis engineering and i-AWD intelligent all-wheel drive
Built on the S5X platform, the chassis provides a balanced driving experience. The front double-wishbone/MacPherson and rear five-line independent suspension systems provide stability and control, whether in everyday use or on harsher terrain.
The i-AWD system enhances vehicle stability through electronic torque distribution, adjusting power to each wheel based on grip and conditions. It can shift smoothly between two- and all-wheel drive to improve efficiency while maintaining performance.
With more than eight selectable drive models—including Economy, Comfort, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Gravel—the system adapts to varied environments. Drivers can switch modes via physical controls, the touchscreen, or voice commands.
Demonstrated in real conditions
During a recent off-road evaluation event at the iCAUR International User Summit, various models, including the V23, V27, and 03T, were driven through mud, steep slopes, and tight corners. The test sessions highlighted the vehicles’ responsive power delivery, chassis tuning, and the stability of the i-AWD system, offering a practical view of how these technologies perform beyond laboratory settings.
“With the S5X platform and our intelligent i-AWD system, we’re showing what thoughtful EV engineering can achieve. These technologies work together to deliver confident, adaptable performance in real conditions, not just on paper,” commented Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager at iCAUR South Africa. “The off-road demonstrations highlighted how our suspension tuning, torque management, and chassis design translate into a stable, responsive driving experience that drivers can feel immediately.”
